Chapter Four

She was beet red and disheveled, and yet had never looked more beautiful. Aherin tried hard to think of something to say. Maybe something snarky, like how he loved being right.

Or maybe he’d cut the crap, and thank her for saving his life.

Better yet, just grab her and kiss her.

Salina snapped her head toward him. “You, wipe that stupid grin off your face.”

Aherin felt said grin grow wider.

He cleared his throat to check if his voice box worked again. Satisfied with the sound that reached his ears, he puffed his chest and squared his shoulders. “So, you do love me.”

“Shut up, Aherin. We need to get out of here. He may come back.” Her voice wasn’t all that steady.

“You know as well as I do he’s not coming back. He’s done. He gave you your gift and all. Gave me my gift too.” He arched an eyebrow and crossed his arms. His hands itched with the need to touch her. To have her. To make her repeat what she’d been forced to admit to Santa. He could lower his arms, so the spell had worn off—probably broken as soon as Santa took off. He could approach Salina, but he wouldn’t go to her this time. It was her turn. “You love me,” he said again.

“I need to get out of here. People are expecting me.” She mirrored his stance for a second, before slinking toward him, the sway of her hips too feline for a wolf, but perfect for the woman she was. Stopping a foot or so away, she looked him in the eye. “You’re enjoying this way too much, you know.”

Aherin shrugged. “Feels good finally getting something in return, after fighting for your attention all this time.”

“Oh, I don’t think you’re getting anything. At least not tonight.” She brushed past him, but Aherin grabbed her forearm and spun her so her back was to the wall. Still holding on to her, he shoved his knee between her thighs to pin her in place.

“Here is where you need to be. Whatever else you have to do can wait,” he whispered in her ear. “We need to talk.”

“Let me go.” She made no effort to push him away. “We said too much tonight.”

“Not to each other. After months of chasing you around, I hear you love me back, only you tell some other guy. Tell me.”

She turned her face to the side and huffed. “I should’ve staked you when Santa gave me the option.”

Aherin chuckled. “But then you wouldn’t have me to play with. And you know I can be a good playmate.”

“I’m not shopping for a playmate.” And yet, she arched her back and tilted her hips to rub against his thigh.

“Too bad, ’cause you’re stuck with me. I’m going to kiss you, until you’re panting and lightheaded. Then I’m going to take you. On the floor or where you stand, makes no difference to me.”

“No.” It was barely more than a whisper, but Aherin’s resolution wavered.

“No?” He used his free hand to lower her palm to his crotch.
